I am using the font Frutiger LT in a document in LibreOffice Writer. The text contains Germanic umlauts such as ä, ü, ö, ß. Everything looks fine in the document. To install the font I put in into
~/.fonts/Frutiger/. The font consists of multiple files (.afm, .inf, .pfb, .pfm).
When I export a PDF from LibreOffice the Germanic umlauts are gone. I tested the PDF with Okular 0.14.3, Evince Document Viewer 3.4.0 and Adobe Reader 9.4.7. I am using LibreOffice 126.96.36.199. on Ubuntu 12.04. I updated to LibreOffice 188.8.131.52. - still the same problem.
I found a very similar bug report on this topic. Nevertheless, I would like to ask if anybody knows a solution to the problem.
Now I noticed the same problem on Windows 7 using OpenOffice 3.4.1. or LibreOffice 184.108.40.206. Moreover, I tested the PDF export with Helvetica Type1 fonts and the previously mentioned Frutiger Type1 fonts (seen in the screenshot). I installed them by clicking on the .pfm file and then choosing "Install" from the context menu.
The same problem occurs in the PDF! What am I doing wrong?!
Sadly, I found more bug reports on the topic:
- Bug 34212 - Accented Characters and Umlauts are missing with Type1 fonts
- Bug 63015 - PDF-Export and Type1-Fonts: Error exporting umlaut
Unbelieveable that this problem has not been fixed for such a long time?!?!
