I got two problems with my USB drive and I badly need a solution asap for these. Please help me out.

  1. My USB devices run very slow in Ubuntu. Though I have 1.1 ports on my laptop, I used to get speed of 20-25mbps for my Seagate USB hard disk while using Windows. But in Ubuntu it's hardly 500-800kbps. The problem persists with pen drives and USB mouse, etc.

  2. Secondly, Ubuntu does not recognize my USB devices unless inserted before boot. I am not able to find them in lsusb output even if inserted after the boot.
