Ask Ubuntu is a question and answer site for Ubuntu users and developers. It's 100% free, no registration required.

I have multiple sites on this server, under two different users. On one, the mail function is working how I intend -- actually emailing the subject. On the other, the email isn't going out (I'm not getting a PHP error on the page or in my log), but it is giving me an alert on command line

You have new mail in /var/mail/jake.

I installed the mail server a while ago (I think it was Postfix or something), and it works on one domain. Is this a user issue or something that's letting it work in one but not the other?

Bro , this MAIL function is way too old and not used , rather than that your mail will always end up in the spam directory (check there)

use http://phpmailer.worxware.com/ its a php class called phpmailer . set it up to send from your gmail account and thats it !

Thanks for the link. However, I'd like to figure out why my simple mail function isn't working instead of setting up something new. It seems like setting up something new would be overkill for a really simple contact form. I checked my spam folder and there isn't anything there. – jake Oct 5 '12 at 17:46
if you are using windows (probably you're not) read the first comment here php.net/manual/en/ref.mail.php . it might be related to some misconfiguration on your sever . and read this link jvfconsulting.com/blog/190/… your IP address might have been blacklisted – Ronan Dejhero Oct 6 '12 at 15:30
