Ubuntu 12.10 plans to send home lens searches to shopping. Will something be done, or will a large scandal crop up, thereby marring Ubuntu's reputation?

If you have a rant to share, there is the Ubuntu Forums or you can even start your own blog. This is not the correct place. –  RolandiXor Oct 1 '12 at 23:51
@EliahKagan I've made edits to try to salvage it to be a better question. Do you want me to remove my comment/rollback my edit/remove my answer? –  hexafraction Oct 2 '12 at 0:16
@ObsessiveFOSS Ah, I see. It's the version with your edits that I think we can keep open. Personally, I like your edits, and I like your answer too--I wouldn't change either. I don't think this is currently not constructive or not a real question. If we find a good question to dupe this to, I do still think we should do that. –  Eliah Kagan Oct 2 '12 at 0:18

There is currently a bug open, with a heated discussion, and it looks as if it will be fixed, at least on the home lens. However, shopping information may be sent if you actively enter that lens.
