My computer boots to a black screen, what options do I have to fix it?

I just replaced Windows with Ubuntu 12.04. It installed correctly, but but when I tried to restart the computer to run of the hdd instead of my usb, the OS didn't boot. A message came up on my monitor saying "Change resolution to 1920x1080 - 60Hz". Can anybody help? I am very inexperienced with this.

Try installing another boot-splash http://www.2shared.com/file/7xG6DxF3/ubuntu_sunrise_10_all.html it replaces the dots with a ubuntu sunrise http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=sqc55gPDRss

Okay, I ran a boot repair, and it's working now.

Only difference is that the boot screen is black, instead of the traditional maroon and orange thing.

There are 4 dots instead of 5, and they're white and yellow. Why is this?

Graphics card is NVidia GEforce 6150 SE

Monitor is HP 2310m
