I changed my password to nothing, and now, the password doesn't work!

I thought that it will make me no more need to write in passwords, but instead it just made me get no access to the admin user.

I am a newbie, so please explain very good.

There is nothing called admin user in Linux. What exactly do you want to do? Can you login to Ubuntu? Ubuntu doesn't allow you to make empty passwords. Please be specific, and explain your problem – Naveen Sep 27 '12 at 5:38
My administrator user, got no password. I pressed the "no password" button and my password went to none. And authorizing doesnt work. But I have done so it automatically logs in, and thats good but its annoying to not use any software in software center – Stian Sep 27 '12 at 5:55

To recover it you need to follow these steps:

  1. Boot your computer.

  2. When you get the Grub menu, select option with recover as shown in the figure.

  3. This will take you to recovery menu. In recovery menu select option "drop to root shell" as shown in figure.

  4. A shell prompt will be displayed at the bottom of the screen with root as username. To change the password of particular user type:

    passwd username

  5. The above command will ask you to enter your new password and retype password. Type your new password.

  6. You might get "Authentication Manipulation error". If you get this error then you need to type:

    mount -rw -o remount /

    And again follow step 4 and 5.

I am getting this error because I am having the same exact problem but when i type that in command i am getting command doesnt exist. I am also a (newbie) at least to linux but i cant download anything from software center now. when you go to user accounts it shows my account and under password it says "none"
