I have a Eee PC 1000HE with a formatted clean hard drive. The installer can not see my hard drive and the partitioner is empty and there is no drives at all.

Try to run Live version of ubuntu and see if then it sees it. Did you try windows or other linux system installer? Does it see the drive? What kind of drive it is (HDD, SSD)? – Misery Sep 26 '12 at 6:30
Gparted sees the drive. None of the installers see the drive. windows sees it fine. it is a run of the mill hitachi HDD 320GB. – mark Sep 28 '12 at 16:17
Sounds like an SATA chipset driver problem OR an intermittent connectivity problem. A dmesg and kernbel log files from the /var/log folder would be key to understanding the problem. – Martin Owens -doctormo- Oct 14 '12 at 1:52
