I have installed Ubuntu 12.04 for the first time. (I downloaded it from ubuntu official site). But it runs slow. I use windows 7 side by side which works fine but ubuntu runs slow.

Is there something I could do to improve?

Have you update and upgrade your system? Does your graphic driver install? Please add some detail about that. Thanks! – penreturn Sep 21 '12 at 17:46
I've installed the latest version of ubuntu i guess. I have driver dvd provided by my motherboard vendor for windows 7 but does that work for ubuntu too? – Prakash Gautam Sep 21 '12 at 17:52

Open terminal (Ctrl+Alt+T) and run this : sudo apt-get update && sudo apt-get upgrade -y and use jockey-text --list to get a list of available drivers and their status. – penreturn Sep 21 '12 at 17:55

Ubuntu 12.04 is more faster if you install gnome session fallback. You can do this:

sudo apt-get install gnome-session-fallback

Make sure your system is up to date. Try:

sudo apt-get update
sudo apt-get dist-upgrade
