Ask Ubuntu is a question and answer site for Ubuntu users and developers. It's 100% free, no registration required.

I just started using Ubuntu, and want to retrieve some files off my windows partition. I don't think I'm "dual booting" so the other answers before don't really work I think. My windows partition was NTFS, but I think I may have somehow broken it using Gparted. (I think i tried to format the NTFS into something else, but at present it says it's NTFS)

Gparted also says it's mounting to /media/sda1, and its partition is /dev/sda1. I have it mounted, but when I click on the "278GB Storage Device" in the home folder, I can't access any of the files from the Windows partition. NTFS-3g is up to date. I would even be okay with figuring out how to restore my Windows partition and getting this stuff on my USB, but i can't figure it out.
