I just set up Ubuntu 10.04 on a VMware virtual machine. When I log in from the account I created when installing Ubuntu, the keyboard works fine. But when I log in as root, it stops responding.

How can I enable the keyboard to work when I'm logged in as root as well?

Thank you

In a default installation there is no "root" account to log in. How did you activate it? See also: askubuntu.com/questions/16178/why-is-it-bad-to-run-as-root – Takkat Sep 20 '12 at 6:57
I enabled it following the instructions given here – user91607 Sep 20 '12 at 7:00
@Takkat I need to install PHP and Apache. For that, you need root access, right? – user91607 Sep 20 '12 at 7:01

@nK0de You can run actions that require root access by using sudo. It is not a good to activate the root user. It's been disabled for a reason ;) – Dan Sep 20 '12 at 7:09

@nK0de: I suspected something like that ;) - good you found it out yourself. Still, you don't need a root account in Ubuntu. Everything can be done with sudo. – Takkat Sep 20 '12 at 7:29
