My laptop's Wi-Fi stopped working when I upgraded to Ubuntu 12.04 (wired works). I just reinstalled 12.04 over my old 12.04 on which Wi-Fi didn't work either in an attempt to restore any settings I may have accidentally changed, but it still doesn't work. I also used a wired connection to install updates in case this bug has been fixed, but it has not.

You should try to install the lastest drivers for your Wireless device. If you didn't do it yet, follow the next steps:

  • Click on the Dash
  • Search for Additional and click Additional Drivers
  • Wait a bit, and you'll see a list with all the compatible drivers for your computer. You can install your graphics card drivers (I usually install the post-release drivers) and all your other devices.
  • Check if your wireless device name appears at that list, select the entry for it and click Activate. After a while, you'll have to restart your computer.

You need to open up Synaptic Package Manager and search for proprietary wireless drivers. Install the driver whose name begins with ntsc.
