Ask Ubuntu is a question and answer site for Ubuntu users and developers. It's 100% free, no registration required.

I've got an alternate install which I have customized to my needs. But before distributing I want to change certain settings like default desktop background, system theme etc. I know I could've done this using squashfs had it been a live CD. But I have no idea how to do it on alternate installer.

Is it possible to achieve what I am trying to do. I am sure it is but I don't know how. Also is it possible to convert an alternate ISO into a LIVE CD. I want to do this because:

  • I want to use preseed to automate most steps.
  • I don't want to depend upon internet for installing packages. I want to prepackage .debs
