I have this DVB+Analog usb tv tuner Hauppauge WinTV HVR-900 (r2) [USB ID 2040:6502]. This used to work under ubuntu 10.04 LTS. But in 12.04 there seems to be a problem.

I have linux-firmware-nonfree and ivtv-utils installed.

I am running Ubuntu 12.04.1 LTS 64 bit with all updates installed and the default unity environment.

When I run

mplayer tv:// -tv driver=v4l2:device=/dev/video1:input=1:norm=PAL

I get a solid green screen and no picture. Here input 1 is the composite input of the card.

Isn't this driver mainline now? Or this card is not supported? Or the analog functionality is screwed?

I need the analog capture working for this card.

Please help!

Are you sure it's your video capture card providing a green screen? I suppose it might also involve the vdpau output module mplayer is trying to use, reading the output of mplayer. Or, the nvidia driver might be bugging. Are regular videos playing fine in mplayer? –  gertvdijk Sep 13 '12 at 20:26

Take a look at this answer: askubuntu.com/questions/45357/… Tested by me by using the USB - Hauppauge! WinTV-HVR 850 Hybrid DTV Stick. I hope it help. –  Geppettvs D'Constanzo Sep 13 '12 at 21:58

yes other videos work fine with mplayer, and I am using an intel chipset based laptop, so I do not have any nvidia graphic module installed. –  nightfly Sep 14 '12 at 6:35

exactly similar issue has also been reported by texas instrument blog at e2e.ti.com/support/dsp/sitara_arm174_microprocessors/f/416/t/… –  nightfly Sep 18 '12 at 17:03

As per the linux TV org linuxtv.org/wiki/index.php/Hauppauge_WinTV-HVR-900 model 65018 (USB ID 2040:6502). This model should be working. But it does not. Green screen is all I get! strange! –  nightfly Oct 3 '12 at 12:37
