I am using an Alienware m17x R4 and I have been having little mouse lags system wide. I have tried different mice but to no avail. I also have 12. 04 on an older much slower machine and don't have the lag problem on it. I don't use swap as I have 32 GB of RAM and don't need it. The system does have two gpu, Intel HD4000 and a 680M. I use bumblebee to enable optimus so that I will have better battery life.

The machine also runs all of the UI off of the Intel chip and only runs the 680m when I enter optirun before the application. I am not aware of any bugs in the Intel driver that may be causing it. Any on this problem would be greatly appreciated as it is rather annoying.

What mouse are you using when experience this lag? and how is it connected? Bluetooth, PS/2, USB, wireless with receiver, etc. Does your touchpad behave the same? And did you share the same mouse device when comparing with your pc? – gertvdijk Sep 13 '12 at 7:31
I am using an Anywhere MX connected via the USB Receiver. I have the same lag on the touchpad as well. I have tried the mouse on the other machine and did not have the lag problem on that machine. I do have it connected to the ESata port as that is the only port that the mouse will function on after login otherwise I have to unplug the adapter for a few second then plug it back in to be able to use the mouse. – user58927 Sep 13 '12 at 7:48
Look in your BIOS if there's a 'USB Legacy support' or a setting of some kind regarding USB input devices and try to change that. From what you're telling me about having to re-plugin the USB dongle makes me think that the kernel has difficulties trying to get direct access to your input devices. – gertvdijk Sep 13 '12 at 8:05
Unfortunately I could not find a USB Legacy support option. If it makes a difference the USB dongle is in the only USB 2.0 port. – user58927 Sep 14 '12 at 6:07
