I've just updated to Ubuntu 12.04 last night and I've been having problems with the sound. Already checked if it was muted and though i tried the troubleshooting steps at https://help.ubuntu.com/community/SoundTroubleshooting and got stuck at number 4, where I tried the sudo aplay -1 command but it said aplay: invalid option -- '1'

I got to this so far and I'm stumped here. The current laptop is running Core i5 and I have another running on Core i3 though there are no problems with the sound on that one. I know I'm supposed to provide the sound card model or something but I'm not so sure how to find that out. Be glad if someone can help me on this. Thanks.

It is sudo aplay -l and not sudo aplay -1 – devav2 Oct 5 '12 at 7:18
