I would like to view a diagrammatic explanation of how Ubuntu's USB stack works. Is there any provision for that? If yes, please guide me to it.

Thanks,
Sen

There are no diagrams that I know of.I can list the components if you specify an Ubuntu version number..

  • If it is ubuntu 10.10 then for Desktop,it's vanilla GNOME with notify-osd replacing notification daemon, the indicator stuff replacing notification-area,compiz replacing metacity.
  • Standard desktop installs are ubuntu-desktop + ubuntu-standard + ubuntu-minimal (the latter two are command-line and basic system stuff) + relevant language and translation packs.
  • So all the desktop stuff hangs off the ubuntu-desktop metapackage.
  • Kubuntu and Xubuntu are the same,with kubuntu-desktop and xubuntu-desktop instead,netbook is ubuntu-netbook for 10.10, i believe.
