I have a Dell GX 260. I removed a 29 GB original drive and replaced with recently formatted 200 GB drive with no operating system on it formatted with NTFS. Then, used Live CD to clean install 12.04 as the single OS, on reboot, I get this error:

grub rescue >

I have carefully and repeatedly gone through the various command line guides found here with no luck, also tried boot repair disk, no luck.

My BIOS is A02, could that be a problem? Any ideas?

Was that all that was displayed? It would really help if you could put the full console output in the question. – njallam Sep 3 '12 at 6:10
Run live CD, open up a terminal and run sudo fdisk -l. Please post the output. – green7 Sep 3 '12 at 8:09
