When I insert the USB flash drive, it does appear on the menu of places, but greyed out. When I right click on the drive and select mount, it does not mount and remains greyed out. How do I correct this kink?

It is already formatted and has files on it. It shows in places as the correct name and all, but is greyed out. Nothing happens when I attempt to mount it - it won't ungrey out... – Steve G. Sep 2 '12 at 3:40
