I installed ubuntu 12.04 LTS on my computer today. The first thing I noticed is that the resolution is totally wrong. So I went and found where to change it but the highest resolution I could have is 1280 x 1024 witch does not look good on my screen.

I google abit around and tried a few things but nothing helped. Downloader Jupiter but when I press Screen Resolutions then nothing happens.

I have got a good computer witch runs games on high, so its not a bad computer we are talking about.

  • My screen is a BenQ G2412HD witch has a 23.5 inch screen with 1920x1080 as screen resolution, 16:9 widescreen. Aspect Ratio is 16:09.
  • Gainward GeForce GTX 670 2GB.

Thanks alot if someone out there would be able to help me.

Welcome to AskUbuntu! Could you please tell us what is the native resolution of your screen and what is its Aspect Ratio? – NlightNFotis Aug 29 '12 at 10:43
Hi. My screen is a BenQ G2412HD witch has a 23.5 inch screen with 1920x1080 as screen resolution, 16:9 widescreen. Aspect Ratio is 16:09. Hope this is what you meant. Dont understand why it wont change my resolution to higher I cant choose higher than 1280x1024. – Olav Aug 29 '12 at 10:54
Which graphics card do you have? Please run 'lspci -v | less' in the terminal, and check for search for VGA or Graphics. – r.bitter Aug 29 '12 at 10:59
I have a clue, but I may be wrong here. Go to Appearance, and make sure that aspect is switched to 16:9 before you attempt to change the screen resolution. – NlightNFotis Aug 29 '12 at 11:01
r.bitter: My graphics card is Gainward GeForce GTX 670 2GB. I cant seem to find VGA or Graphics when I run your line. NlightNFotis: When I go to Appearance I got no choice to switch aspects. Just background etc. – Olav Aug 29 '12 at 11:08
