I have succesfully installed ubuntu alongside windows xp, but when i restarted after the installation was complete, It booted up windows, and gave me no option to boot Ubuntu. couldn't find anything in the BIOS whatsoever. It should give me an option to boot Ubuntu when i start up the computer, right? alteast it did on my other computer where i installed it alonside windows vista.

any ideas?

Did you install Ubuntu using an USB drive? If so, GRUB may be installed in the USB rather than the hard drive. Try booting with the same USB drive plugged in, and edit the question with the results. – user68186 Aug 27 '12 at 16:38
