Ask Ubuntu is a question and answer site for Ubuntu users and developers. It's 100% free, no registration required.

I have a monitor that has ability to rotate from landscape mode to portrait.

I want my XUbuntu 12.04 to rotate image as well.

I'm using nvidia with xinerama extension.

The only way i know to rotate image is to add some property to the monitor's section in xorg.conf file.

So the question is: how can i make OS to re-read xorg.conf after i update it?

I can't just reboot my PC every time i decided to rotate my monitor.

When i try to:

sudo service lightdm restart

It just falls to the terminal screen and hangs there, without input prompt.

Please advise! Thanks! )
