I cannot open Adobe files. An ASCI Filter options message pops up and the text is unreadable. I was able to open files but something changed. I am not a computer guru and need help.

Can you specify what type of "Adobe files"? Files that would normally open with Acrobat/Reader (PDF) can be opened with evince. Photoshop files (PSD) can be opened with gimp. Flash files (SWF) should be openable in a browser - firefox or chromium. – chronitis Aug 27 '12 at 13:46
