I am working on a project i.e. developing/improving Operating System scheduling for scalable multi core architecture. I was downloading linux kernel3.2.28 source code (tar file) from whose size is 74MB. But when file is downloaded, it's size becomes 45MB and when I am trying to open it, it is not opening.

Can you help me to solve this problem?

Are you using Ubuntu, what did you used to download it. – atenz Aug 27 '12 at 6:32

It seems there was a download problem. use "wget" to download the kernel tarball.
