Ask Ubuntu is a question and answer site for Ubuntu users and developers. It's 100% free, no registration required.

I am installing Ubuntu BackTrack 5, and I left out the bootloader installation, as I thought I could just use EasyBCD to add the installation to the boot menu - turns out I couldn't.

So, my question is: How can I install GRUB from a LiveCD, so I can add THAT to the Windows Boot Manager?

I am using Windows 7, and BackTrack 5 R3 (Ubuntu based distro).

I have googled it, and only found cases where the bootloader was lost after installation - I didnt install it in the first place.

Installing or modifying is same. You can have a try with BOOT REPAIR. But Backtrack isn't in this site's scope. The question will be marked as off topic – Web-E Aug 25 '12 at 11:43
Thanks - BackTrack is based on Ubuntu, so I thought it wouldnt matter. I will try this. – Jeff Aug 25 '12 at 11:51
Yea its based on ubuntu, but heavily modified. – Web-E Aug 25 '12 at 11:52
I tried the BOOT REPAIR, however it keeps telling me to connect to the internet - I removed all options that would require internet connectivity. – Jeff Aug 25 '12 at 12:37
@Jeff If you can confirm that this behavior is the same with vanilla Ubuntu and Backtrack, then you can reword or ask a modified version of this question which will pass the 'on topic vs. off topic' test. – belacqua Aug 25 '12 at 22:43
