I just recently upgraded from version 10.04 to version 12.04.

Now every time I start my computer I have to go into recovery mode and go to the networking part and run that, then continue with the normal boot to get the networking to work. The icon at the top panel doesn't even show up if I don't do this. The networking worked fine until I upgraded.

What do I need to do to make it work without having to boot into recovery mode - that is starting the network with normal boot?

I am on an HP Compaq Presario V5000 with a Broadcom BCM4312 wireless NIC and a Realtek RTL8139 Ethernet NIC.
