I have an Ubuntu 12.04 server at home. It was working fine utile yesterday when I did an apt-get upgrade.

First problem : grub timeout is disabled. Bootup hangs on grub.

Second problem : the services configured to startup on the defaults runlevels wont start (Apache2, transmission-deamon, sambad, etc).

Here is a dump of my boot.log file

root@HomeServer:~# cat /var/log/boot.log

Rather than invoking init scripts through /etc/init.d, use the service(8)
utility, e.g. service S20dovecot start
initctl: Unknown job: S20dovecot

Since the script you are attempting to invoke has been converted to an
Upstart job, you may also use the start(8) utility, e.g. start S20dovecot

Did the upgrade complete without error? The dovecot error in the boot log suggests it might not have. – Oli Aug 24 '12 at 22:13
I gess know i've seen lots of posts saying this append when upgrade failed. I realy don't know what to do, I dan't want to reinstall all my services... – Pierre-Loup Aug 25 '12 at 7:09
