Ask Ubuntu is a question and answer site for Ubuntu users and developers. It's 100% free, no registration required.

I try to enable remote access from a 12.04 to a 10.04 Ubuntu via Remmina. While I could enable XDMCP on GDM, after I remote login I do not seem to have a remote mouse pointer, as clicking/hovering does not have any effect. Is XDMCP plain broken or is there a way to get it working?

possibly off topic (describes a bug). Reporting this bug on launchpad would bring it to the attention of the developers. – adempewolff Aug 20 '12 at 9:37
So you are saying I am the only one who does use XDMCP? – LCID Fire Aug 20 '12 at 10:04
no, just that it sounds like you are reporting a bug and Ask Ubuntu is not the correct venue for reporting bugs. – adempewolff Aug 20 '12 at 17:26
@adempewolff I don't think it is a bug since then XDMCP would not work at all anymore - I don't think that the devs are that stupid. – LCID Fire Aug 21 '12 at 9:23
A bug does not mean that a program just totally stops working, nor does it mean that the bug occurs all the time and for all users across all hardware, just that the software "produces an incorrect or unexpected result, or causes it to behave in unintended ways" (Wikipedia). Not having a mouse pointer is definitely an unexpected result in my book. Unless you are doing something really stupid you aren't mentioning here--making it a case of user error--then it is by definition a bug in the software and should be reported on launchpad. – adempewolff Aug 21 '12 at 13:31
