I just finished upgrading Ubuntu 12.04-64bit on my Samsung NP300 notebook. The version of newly installed kernel is : 3.2.0-29-generic. I used to pass acpi_backlight=vendor parameter to kernel before to get backlight controls working. However, this is not working anymore. Not even programs like xbacklight are working for me.

I've also tried setpci -s 00:02.0 F4.B=00, but no luck. Help!

Try this to see if you can adjust brightness from the command line. – Chan-Ho Suh Aug 18 '12 at 5:49
