Ask Ubuntu is a question and answer site for Ubuntu users and developers. It's 100% free, no registration required.

I'm having serious doubts about WHY in ubuntu (or other linux distros), LibreOffice quick Launch it's not set by default? It speeds the opening of the office suite incredibly and not consuming a lot of resources.

I know that when you shut down the machine and quick launch is running, there's a dialog that appears, but that bug should be fixed and quick launch set by default.

Ubuntu experience would be highly increased!!

While questions about design decisions are sometimes a good fit for this site, the way you've worded this question suggests that your intention is to request the feature, or to start a discussion about it, rather than to find out why it doesn't currently work that way. To request a feature, file a bug report for it (but read this first) and/or post an idea on Brainstorm. (Or do both, but if you do make sure they link to each other.) Or if your intention really is to ask why LibreOffice Quick Launch is disabled by default (rather than to say that it should be enabled), please comment to indicate that and request that this question be reopened, and/or post on meta suggesting it be reopened. – Eliah Kagan Aug 18 '12 at 1:40

You have answered your question: It is consuming resources. Doesen't matter how little. If we add a quick launch for all the apps that would be much resource.

Launchpad Blueprints should not be used to ask questions; it should be used for presenting technically detailed, robust ideas that one is willing to at least help implement as a developer. Did you mean to suggest that the idea should be posted on Brainstorm? – Eliah Kagan Aug 17 '12 at 0:24
Oky, sorry about suggesting Blueprints, but anyway, we can't really answer questions like this. – hzsolt Aug 17 '12 at 12:54
Ok... sorry, I was just thinking that since libreoffice is a fundamental app it should just open faster. The problem I see is that even in new hardware libreoffice takes a lot to open, so I check quick launch in those machines and the time to open libreoffice for the first time is a matter of 1 to 2 seconds. But sorry again, I was just trying to suggest something that worked great for me in at least 3 machines I own. – Jean-Pierre Vidal Aug 20 '12 at 9:11
