I installed 12.04 some week ago. After some operation, I changed the ownership of /etc directory and have some problems. That's why I decided to reinstall Ubuntu.

I downloaded CD distro, but my installation hangs at the "Copy the installation log" operation. I reboot my PC, load Live CD, delete all system disk partitions, try to reinstall but installation hangs again. Then, I download DVD distro and try to install from it, but "Copy the installation log" lasted for three hours and I have nest log of it:

/var/log/installer/debug /target/var/log/installer/debug Aug 14

What can I make for normal finishing installation of Ubuntu?

A couple of suggestions are try a live usb install or you could try the alternate install cd. It is more complex as it uses a text based installer but as you just want a normal install should work for you. – mark kirby Aug 14 '12 at 11:05
Thanks alot, but Ubuntu alternate doesn't install. After some thought, I decided to disable a second hard drive which is the slave and the installation was successful. For some reason GRUB was installed on the slave-drive, even though I installed Ubuntu on the master disk – Mixim Aug 15 '12 at 6:51
