I am using Ubuntu 12.04 64 bit on a laptop with following properties:-

  1. 6GB Ram
  2. 500 GB HDD
  3. 1 GB AMD Raedon 6400 series graphic card
  4. intel i3 2nd generation processor
  5. Kernel :- 3.2.0-29-generic

Recently, I have seen that the CPU usage is touching 100% on almost 3 out of 4 cores. And this happens if just browse the web or just install a software from ubuntu software center.

And under the high cpu usage laptop starts behaving like an old gen pc.

I ran htop and the following are the results:-

How can I overcome the situation.

You will need to provide a htop screenshot taken while the machine is under such a heavy load. The current screen shot is indicating a situation where roughly only one CPU is being used (see the last number next to Load average near the top right of the screen). – Steve Kroon Aug 16 '12 at 8:07
Please do not create a tag such as high. It is not much in categorization. – ObsessiveSSOℲ Aug 16 '12 at 19:46
