Ask Ubuntu is a question and answer site for Ubuntu users and developers. It's 100% free, no registration required.

Starting last week whenever I try to share my screen people see only blackness and when I try to remove screensharing the hangouts session hangs. When I reload the page I am usually told I need to re-install the plugin (which I have done) but it seems to start working again after a while.

I am running a fully current version of Ubuntu (12.04 with all the updates as of yesterday). I'm not terribly linux-savvy so I don't know what my next steps are

Here are the fairly unhelpful contents of my gtbplugin.log file

Please, can you try sudo apt-get update && sudo apt-get install libv4l-0 ? If it isn't already installed, wait for it to install and restart your system. –  hakermania Aug 13 '12 at 22:09

Thanks @hakermania but no luck - still having problems –  George Mauer Aug 13 '12 at 22:40

This is a bug report that should be reported to google. –  Jorge Castro Aug 14 '12 at 13:47

@JorgeCastro - do you know where that would happen to be? I've been looking but can't seem to find the appropriate support forum. –  George Mauer Aug 14 '12 at 13:55

Looks like support.google.com/plus/bin/request.py –  Jorge Castro Aug 14 '12 at 13:56
