Ask Ubuntu is a question and answer site for Ubuntu users and developers. It's 100% free, no registration required.

I recently updated my Ubuntu Live CD from 11.10 to 12.04, but now I have some trouble with the IP address.

Previously I simply edited the /etc/NetworkManager/system-connections/connectionXX file like this:

[ipv4]
method=manual
addresses1=192.168.0.2;28;192.168.0.1;

and it worked fine. I could see the address in ifconfig and could use the connection.

But since upgrade to 12.04, Ubuntu tries to create a new connection (possibly because of another MAC address in head line?) with DHCP. Furthermore, the wired connection is deactivated, so I have to activate it every time (and not all users know how to do it, so it is a bit troublesome)

How could I solve the problem?
