Ask Ubuntu is a question and answer site for Ubuntu users and developers. It's 100% free, no registration required.

I installed 9.04 without a problem on Averatec 3280 (Microsoft will not replace XP disk without copy of a 7 year old receipt of purchase and also Linux is kinder to these non-dual processor machines).

I really want this to work. I understand that I need to manually press the wireless button and then add the new network connection. The trouble is that the add new network menu options will not highlight so that I can:

  1. activate wireless from the first pull down menu; and
  2. use "Apply" to actually add my new wireless port.

Very frustrating. I cannot make heads or tails of the Averatec Ubuntu online discussions.

What version of Ubuntu do I now need to fix this and use wireless?
There still are Averatecs out there -- this was a 1000$ machine just 7 yrs ago. I replaced the hard drive.
