Ask Ubuntu is a question and answer site for Ubuntu users and developers. It's 100% free, no registration required.

My Norton Antivirus expired today, and when I fired up Ubuntu via VBox (on a Windows 7 host), the Internet is only intermittently accessible- it actually works fine for a minute or two, then stops connecting.

What's more is that on my main OS (my Win 7 host), the network manager in the lower right of the desktop says "no Internet connection," yet my Internet on my host seems to work just fine otherwise, save for some sites having irregular formatting (on the browsers Chrome and IE, but Firefox is fine).

Does anyone have any insights as to whether it is the diabling of Norton that is causing this? I'm planning on renewing my subscription today. Thanks.

This looks more like a Windows issue than an Ubuntu one, please go here instead: superuser.com. – Uri Herrera Aug 5 '12 at 22:15

Yes, Norton Antivirus usually includes a system (kernel) level firewall which is most probably disabled as well, thus preventing Virtualbox from connecting.
