So... it seems that problems with nVidia cards and Ubuntu 12.04 are common. But my issue has a twist - so far I haven't been able to get into my system /at all/. Holding Shift after the BIOS posts doesn't bring up grub at all, the monitor just immediately says "Video Signal Out of Range". Ctrl+alt+f1 does nothing.

Is there anything I can do (e.g. delete some files on the HD while using the live cd, which works fine) to get back in? Or am I pretty much relegated to just re-installing? (I have a /home/ partition in addition to /, so that's not a massive inconvenence, but I do have quite a few extra packages installed that I don't want to go away.)

EDIT

Well, never mind I guess. Something started working after I let it sit there for a while and came back and started hitting down arrows and other things and it started working. So... weird!
