On Windows I always use the default sensitivity with mouse acceleration disabled. I use the DPI on my mouse to adjust the sensitivity.

With the news that Valve will be porting their games to steam, I want to see if I can get the mouse to perform this way in Linux.

My goals are to get the closest to the raw input from the mouse as possible with as little tainting from the OS as possible. Does anyone know how to accomplish this?

What seems to be the problem? I use a mouse with adjustable acceleration with Ubuntu and it works fine. Did you encounter any issues? I can tell you how to get to the raw input from the mouse, but I dont think that is what you want. You just want to use the mouse, right? – Aras Aug 3 '12 at 5:44
I'm trying to get a 1:1 ratio when I move the mouse. No positive or negative mouse acceleration. In other words, if I move an inch with the mouse it will move the same amount of pixels whether I move slowly or quickly. To elaborate on positive and negative acceleration (for those who don't already know): Positive acceleration would move the cursor more pixels than at the neutral speed. Negative acceleration actually moves the cursor less pixels when you move the mouse faster than it would move at the neutral speed. – Ryan Moody Aug 3 '12 at 7:40
I see, so you have tried pointer speed settings (in mouse settings) to lower acceleration and speed of the mouse. Right? – Aras Aug 3 '12 at 21:11
