I just got a Lenovo X60 and plugged in my SSD with Ubuntu in it. Everything seems to work great except the volume buttons on the panel above the keyboard are not being interpreted by Ubuntu. The confusing part is that they are actually working and changing the sound or muting it, but in the unity panel on top the volume icon does not reflect the change. It can be confusing since you see the volume as being on where in fact it is mutes in hardware. Also when changing the volume using those buttons, I do not get the notification or the sound feedback that happens when sound card integration with Unity is working properly.

What steps do I need to take to integrate the physical volume control buttons into Unity?
