Ask Ubuntu is a question and answer site for Ubuntu users and developers. It's 100% free, no registration required.

Ubuntu(or maybe just Unity) lags whenever I minimize a window when there's no other opened window(others are minimized).

I faced this problem after I install Ubuntu Tweak 0.7, Conky, OpenJDK 7, IcedTea 7 (if it does matter)

There's no problem to:

  • show and hide windows
  • spread window
  • open and close window

I have set window minimize animation as Fade 220ms and Animation Time Step as 1 in CCSM but I honestly don't think this is the problem because when there's other opened window, everything is smooth.

Ubuntu 12.04, Dell Inspiron 1525, Intel Core 2 Duo @2.00GHZ, 4GB RAM

Try disabling visual effects or switch to Unity 2D. I cannot tell you how to as I use Lubuntu now.

This does not provide an answer to the question. To critique or request clarification from an author, leave a comment below their post - you can always comment on your own posts, and once you have sufficient reputation you will be able to comment on any post. – Mitch Sep 25 '12 at 5:47
@Mitch This is still better off as an answer than a comment. Arguably it should be deleted (though I don't think so, it provides valuable, usable information). But it should not be a comment. – Eliah Kagan Oct 1 '12 at 2:06
@EliahKagan You say it should be deleted yet you say it shouldn't be a comment. – acematrix Oct 1 '12 at 16:39
@acematrix I did not say that, I said I thought your answer is valuable and should continue to exist as an answer. Please go back and read what I did say. But if I had said that it should be deleted and shouldn't be a comment, there would be no inconsistency. The majority of answers that are deleted by moderators are just deleted, and not converted to comments. – Eliah Kagan Oct 1 '12 at 16:59
