print: “self-test page” works, but “test page” does not

Question

I set up a network printer (Hewlett-Packard HP LaserJet 500 color M551) as

dnssd://HP%20LaserJet%20500%20color%20M551%20%5B97F500%5D._pdl-datastream._tcp.local/

When I click on "print self-test page", a page "hp lj 500..." is printed.

When I click on "print test page", nothing is printed.

The printer works, others can print to it (from macs).

I use ubuntu 12.04.
