I updated my Dell Inspiron 1405 to Ubuntu 12.04. Wifi is not working.

When I plug in Ethernet cable, it still does not connect to the Internet and hence I am unable to down load any driver updated. I have Dell wireless drivers on a USB drive but don't know how to use an .exe file in Ubuntu. I'm a first time Linux user--please help.

Update:

Thanks for the feedback. Ethernet is working now. Wifi still not. I tried to use following command as found on similar questions:

sudo apt-get remove bcmwl-kernel-source
sudo apt-get install bcmwl-kernel-source

then restarted the laptop. No solution yet to wifi. Additional drivers in system settings shows Broadcom STA wireless driver as active. Any ideas what could be wrong here?

Thanks, Ankit

exe files are not meant for ubuntu and so the windows drivers. Is your ethernet connected detected? Can you see Wired connection 1 in network manager applet (top right)? Does your network require configuration? See here sitepoint.com/… – Web-E Jul 31 '12 at 8:03
