I tried to install 12.04 on a Dellâ„¢ GX260, 512 RAM, 2.4Ghz. Installation seems to go ok, runs fine off live CD. No problems, but when I boot, I get a single line

Syslinux 3.63 debian 2008-07-15 ebios (c)1994-2008 H.Peter Anvin
Loading...

It then switches to a black screen with a small grey box in the lower corner and nothing happens.

I had 10.04 installed on the same machine, worked fine, started with a fresh install of 12.04 standard, then tried 12.04 alternate. Same issue. Not even sure where to start with this issue. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

(1) Run "disk utility" from ubuntu live cd, check your hard drive's SMART data to see if there are any bad sectors and/or other problems with the disk. (2) I would try Lubuntu 12.04 if I were you, basically because of the memory size of your computer. (3) Try some boot options. – medigeek Jul 25 '12 at 23:38
Syslinux is the LiveCD bootloader. Remove the CD and try again. – izx Jul 26 '12 at 0:46
