Im trying to remote access my server (home machine) that is running Ubuntu 10.04 at home.

I installed putty on my windows 7 laptop and I was able to connect to my server machine at home fine using putty (from within the home network).

I am using port 22 and have forward the port in my router settings (Linksys WRT54G).

I cant access my server at home from a different network at work. Port 22 is not blocked at my work network because some co-workers can ssh to their machine remotely.

I dont know what to do, can you please help.

Do you have iptables installed. This could be blocking the connection from non-local addresses. – StarNamer Jul 25 '12 at 19:23
iptables, or ufw, or gufw, or any other firewall? – ImaginaryRobots Jul 25 '12 at 19:23

Does your ISP provide you with a static IP or a Dynamic IP? Are you using the IP address provided by your ISP when you are trying to SSH from outside your home? Or Are you using an url? What error message do you get when SSH fails to connect? – user68186 Jul 25 '12 at 19:38
Sometimes it's easy to portforward incorrectly. Go to canyouseeme.org from your home network and put in 22 to make sure it is forwarded correctly. – user99545 Jul 25 '12 at 22:06
