My laptop is an Acer Aspire and A couple days ago my hard drive went bad and it started out with only a few bad sectors but then completely wouldn't work. Since then I have tried repairing it using Ubuntu and it was unsuccessful on my first hard drive. I got a hard drive from another laptop in my house that hasn't been used in a while and I put it in to see if it would work and it didn't work either because according to Ubuntu it has 17 bad sectors on it and it wont even load windows or any type of diagnostic software for windows. The hard drive works perfectly fine on other laptops but not mine. I need some help.

Disk Utilityand click on the 'SMART Data' button. Check the warning box at the bottom. Have a backup of important data, since you will no longer have a warning when it really does fail. – Tom Brossman Jul 23 '12 at 9:51
