sorry to disturb you but I got a question about programming in Ubuntu. Ubuntu team recommends using Python as a programming language + using tool quickly (thanks for your youtube tutorial.) however on the web site http://developer.ubuntu.com/resources/programming-languages/python/ I wasn't able to find tutorial for learning Python from scratch, as in I have no previous programming exp. so the question is can you give me a link for a good Python tutorial from scratch for a complete "noobs" in this area? I really want to learn programming as fast as possible and start creating my first apps.

P.S. would be nice if someone could also give a link on GUI programming (GTK) using Python.

I don't think this is a question for askubuntu. But to help you, here : learnpythonthehardway.org – harisibrahimkv Jul 21 '12 at 18:21
The Python website has official Python tutorials and links to third-party tutorials. But if you're learning programming, get a book. Start from Getting Started. – Gilles Jul 21 '12 at 18:22

The book "A Byte Of Python" helped me a lot with learning, plus it's available on the internet free of charge.

NOTE: This teaches you Python 2.6, it's not that different from Python 3.2, but it's better to tell you ;)

The link you gave is the version of the book for python 3: the official download is at files.swaroopch.com/python/byte_of_python_v192.pdf. The link for the book on python 2 is at files.swaroopch.com/python/byte_of_python_v120.pdf – Mik Jul 21 '12 at 19:09

If you are interested in a free tutorial, you can have a look at the series that Full Circle Magazine created.

Each month there is a new tutorial. Of course, you would want to start at the beginning (which was issue 27); but fortunately, every so often FCM creates a special edition of past Python tutorials. Start with the first Python Special Edition.

Personally I really liked the book "Think Python". This learns you programming and the basics of the Python language. It is free for download here: http://www.greenteapress.com/thinkpython/
