I've followed this guide for troubleshooting WiFi problems.

I found that my wireless card is actually working but somehow can't load pages or ping for more than ~5 seconds after it gets connected. i.e. I can successfully load a page, if I do it right after the device connected message displays, otherwise, no luck. (sorry for being redundant)

It might be useful to say that if I use a 3G modem, this same problem presents. The modem is perfectly functional with other systems and external conditions are the same.

It also might be useful to say that if I connect via Ethernet, everything works fine.

Any help will be appreciated.

This device (3G modem) uses options HSO drivers. I added them in the kernel. It installs 6 devices on /dev, because of the GPS module included. They are named ttyHSx.

If more information is needed, please let me know.

Another Update: dhclient wlanX displays:

RTNETLINK answers: File exists

I have to set the network's password on each boot. I noticed that the wlanX device changes on every boot; i.e. if I have wlan10, when I reboot I'll be getting wlan11. I'm currently at wlan64.

It seems quite strange to get the same behavior on two different devices.

Hi there, you'll need to post some technical info about the wireless hardware. The output of sudo lshw -C network would be a good start. If possible, please add it to the question. – mikewhatever Jul 20 '12 at 20:07
@arhimed thank you! i think it is not the same problem... anyhow i tried one of their solutions: replace network manager with wicd... : no changes at all... but when i reinstalled network manager, wifi started working again... unfortunately my 3g modem is still down... ill be posting lshw log soon thank you both... – Alexis Jul 20 '12 at 23:55
