I have a Vaio VGN-FZ31S and the brightness of the laptop screen is broken. The screen is really dark. The attached external display works fine.
It used to work but then suddenly, out of nowhere the laptop screen broke. The initial Vaio logo (of the main board) shown at startup before BIOS/grub etc is displayed fine. Also sometimes, while booting, shutting down, resuming the screen is lighted up briefly (with good brightness). So it is not completely broken.
It may be a hardware problem or some low level setting since also in the BIOS, any boot CD/USB, grub etc. have the same problem. The screen is not pitch black but just really dark, I have to use an external light (phone flashlight) to be able to see anything at all.
In the BIOS there are no screen/graphics related settings at all. I tried to reset the BIOS settings to no avail. Also trying to change the screen brightness after startup with nvclock (only working way with this hardware that I am aware of) does not work.
I'm not sure if this is the right place to ask but i hope somebody can help. Any help to debug/workaround/fix the problem is appreciated. I would already be happier if i could find out what the origin of the problem is. Thank you in advance.
