The ability to run multimedia applications depends more on (linux) drivers available for your specific hardware than on the distribution you installed. There are many different and specialized distributions that have more or less mutimedia-oriented software pre-installed or that have a media center oriented desktop manager. However installing such a specialized distribution is no prerequisite to run any of these programs. They can be installed very easily later in all distributions. Depending on the the completeness of the software repositories there may be some differences, but when asking here the answer to your question can not be different to "choose Ubuntu" in this respect. You will find many useful multimedia-applications already pre-installed and there are plenty of other multimedia application easily installable from the software center. |

Generally any would be fine. You might like the vast 3rd party repositories of OpenSUSE though. Other than that, Ubuntu will do fine. http://www.opensuse.org/en/ |
