I'm trying to boot a live cd with Ubuntu 12.04 on my ASUS X71SL laptop. I cant boot from USB, so I burned a CD, and changed the boot order everything. After booting the screen goes purple and changes to a black screen with a single blinking white underscore and doesn't move on. If I use the CD in another laptop it stay on the screen with the single white underscore for less than a second and goes to the Ubuntu screen with the white/orange dots.

So what could cause this problem, because the CD does work and my laptop does start to boot the live CD but just stops. So I think the CD and CD drive are fine what else could it be?

Try setting BIOS to defaults, and try. – Mitch Jul 16 '12 at 18:52

It's in french but link under this page redirect to an english forum page where i found information for fixed this issue.

Go to your BIOS and change this settings :

Bios > Security > I/O interface security > option New card interface —> mettre en statut LOCKED au lieu de UNLOCKED
