Hey I've had this issue since 11.10 but I've only now decided to actually try getting it solved and I'm wondering if anyone has had similar issues. I've tried finding additional drivers using system settings and that didn't work, however using the terminal and lsusb my laptop's webcam is detected as shown just below:

Bus 001 Device 001: ID 1d6b:0002 Linux Foundation 2.0 root hub
Bus 002 Device 001: ID 1d6b:0001 Linux Foundation 1.1 root hub
Bus 003 Device 001: ID 1d6b:0001 Linux Foundation 1.1 root hub
Bus 004 Device 001: ID 1d6b:0001 Linux Foundation 1.1 root hub
Bus 005 Device 001: ID 1d6b:0001 Linux Foundation 1.1 root hub
Bus 001 Device 002: ID 05ca:1870 Ricoh Co., Ltd Webcam 1000

Bottom line my question is this: Is there a way to solve hardware issues like this for any hardware so I know what drivers/packages I need? Or does anyone have a similar issue solved so I can get some ideas as to how to go about it? (I'll go around the forums searching anyways but if someone is familiar with this issue just give me a shout) Thanks in advance for your help.

Edit-am trying out 3pei's instructions to check if they work, stumbled accross them seems to be a common driver issue: http://ubuntuforums.org/showthread.php?t=1592330

2nd Edit-I manage to get the drivers installed but I have the same bug as Jongy, except on cheese I gradually have my webcam go multicoloured before going dark. If I'm not mistaken this is because my webcam for some reason with the driver seems to not work when there is too much light, I know my hardware isn't buggy because on windows it works perfectly so I was wondering how can I solve this issue seeing as it's clearly a software issue with the driver?

User Jongy posted: I have same problem as you, except I managed to get the drivers installed but once I start the webcam the image gradually gets worse and worse as I use it, until it shows me a black screen. So for me the drivers work fine once installed except the webcam stops being useful after 30 seconds not sure if this is a hardware or a software issue. Do you have same problem? Or should I start new question? – Oyibo Jan 7 at 10:24
